Sensual lips

Luscious, ideally shaped lips are an important characteristic of our expression and external image. Everybody is different and thus also only a customised lip shape suits them.
Not everyone is naturally blessed with ideally shaped lips. Furthermore the ageing process results in change of the lip shape associated frequently with the loss of moisture and volume. One way or another, you do not need to let this fact affect you. The harmony of your lips can be rebuilt gently and safely using hyaluronic acid.
For your beautiful smile
Hyaluronan treatment can make the lip contour more prominent or increase lip volume.
In each case, the objective is to have lips that look natural and well-proportioned and that suit your face. After a short consultation and discussion about your wishes, the treatment can usually be performed in one session. The effect is immediate and usually lasts for between six and twelve months.
More fluid hyaluronan can be used to smooth out fine lip lines, while for more pronounced lip wrinkles it may need to be combined with chemical peeling, laser treatment or Ultherapy® in order to obtain the desired result and avoid unnatural “duck lips”.
Tiny quantities of botulinum toxin are excellent for preventing lip lines.
Treatment options for the lips
Lip lines
Wrinkles may develop around the lips due to the constant movement of the mouth, loss of moisture, intense sunlight or smoking. These wrinkles, sometimes also called “smoker’s” or “barcode” lines can be substantially reduced.

Lip volume
In the case of thin lips, application of hyaluronan makes it possible to increase the volume of the upper and lower lip or to emphasise certain parts and thus improve the shape of the mouth. The size depends on the individual structure and proportions of your face.
Often not just the volume of the lips but also the philtrum columns (vertical grooves that run from the nose to the middle of the upper lip) are treated in order to harmonise the overall picture.
Lip contours
By means of targeted treatment of the lip contour, a more defined and beautiful lip shape can be achieved. In contrast to a lip liner, the edges of the lips are not simply contrasted but somewhat more clearly shaped. Thus, for example the so-called cupid’s bow on the upper lip is very beautifully highlighted.
Oral commissures and marionette lines
Marionette lines extend from the corners of the mouth down to the lower jaw. This demarcates the chin so it looks like a puppet. These lines give an impression of sadness and resignation.
They can be filled with fillers (e.g. hyaluronic acid or Radiesse®). If they are very pronounced, simultaneous volume treatment in the cheek region is often necessary. A combination of Ultherapy and fillers might also be considered.
If the wrinkles around the mouth are reinforced by an involuntary pulling down of the corners of the mouth that has become habitual, the muscles should be relaxed by combining treatments with botulinum toxin.
FAQ
Questions?
- Speech
We need our lips in order to communicate. Sounds such as B, M and P are formed with the help of the lips. - Eating and drinking
The lips are also important for taking in food and liquids and guiding them into the mouth. Their importance is already evident in infancy, when they create a seal around the nipple during breastfeeding or around the teat of a bottle. - Facial expression
Targeted movements of the lips communicate emotions. Examples include lifting the corners of the mouth when smiling, lowering them when sad or forming a pout when annoyed. - Sensuality
The lips also play an important role in sensual contact. - Aesthetics
The lips strongly influence our appearance and contribute to facial aesthetics and attractiveness. They can also be accentuated with lipstick or lip gloss.
Plastic and aesthetic surgeons in the USA examined in a study what proportions might be perceived as particularly attractive in female lips. The study focused on photographs of white women between 18 and 25 years of age.
In the first part, participants were shown digitally modified images in which the size of the upper and lower lip had been altered. They rated the attractiveness of the lips on a scale from 1 to 10. In a second stage, portrait photographs were modified by alternately reducing the upper and lower lip in order to evaluate preferred proportions.
The study suggested that a ratio of approximately 1:2 between the upper and lower lip was rated particularly attractive, with the lower lip around twice the size of the upper lip. Participants also rated a lip area corresponding to around 10 percent of the lower third of the face as attractive. The results were published in JAMA Facial Plastic Surgery.
However, such study results should not be treated as a universal ideal. Every face has different proportions and tissue characteristics. The lip shape that appears harmonious therefore differs from person to person. For this reason, we do not consider a fixed mathematical proportion to be a generally applicable standard for attractive lips.
Not every woman or man naturally has the lip shape or volume they would like. If the proportions of the lips do not harmonise with the rest of the face, this can influence the overall facial balance. If the lips appear too small for the face, an injection treatment can increase volume. The same applies when the lips have lost volume as part of the ageing process.
Some patients also have asymmetrical lips, for example when the upper and lower lip or the right and left side differ in proportion. Filler treatment can help balance these differences. Other options in our practice include reducing fine lip lines or marionette lines and improving the lip contour.
The term Russian Lips refers to a lip shape reminiscent of traditional Russian nesting dolls (Matryoshka dolls). With this technique, volume is built up primarily in the centre of the lip.
The Russian Lips technique is not intended simply to make the entire lips look more voluminous. Instead, it aims to lift and reshape the lip. An important objective is to avoid an overly projecting “duck-lip” appearance, meaning that the lips should not protrude excessively in profile.
A firmer filler is commonly used for Russian Lips so that the shape can be defined more precisely. Only small amounts of filler are placed in the lips through several injections.
Treatment usually starts in the centre of the lip and progresses gradually towards the corners of the mouth. This can create the characteristic Russian-Lips shape and emphasise the contours.
The aim remains a natural-looking result rather than an artificial appearance.
The Botox Lip Flip is a method that can make the upper lip appear slightly larger without adding filler volume. Small amounts of Botox are injected above the Cupid’s bow. The muscle relaxes and the lip rotates slightly outwards, showing more of the red lip and therefore appearing fuller.
If desired, the treatment can also be combined with hyaluronic acid filler to add additional volume.
