Your hands are not only your business card. They are also something like a vita. Daily work, frequent contact with water and detergents and UV radiation: Their past can be seen on your hands over the years. The moisture level of the skin decreases and age spots as well as age warts can appear. If you are unhappy with the appearance of your hands, we can help. Using a variety of methods, we can make your hands appear fresher and younger again. We explain in detail how hand rejuvenation can be done in this article.
This is how hands age
The skin on your hands is very delicate. It is subjected to a great deal of stress every day – and is usually not protected enough. Environmental influences and sun exposure additionally accelerate the aging process of the hands. In addition, the collagen and elastin fibers, the body’s own hyaluronic acid and the subcutaneous fatty tissue continuously decrease. As a result, the skin loses firmness, tautness and elasticity – and the volume also decreases. Consequently, the skin appears even thinner and the blue veins and tendons on the back of the hand may become more prominent. Typical signs of aging hands also include wrinkles, general dryness, and age spots and warts. In addition, general uneven pigmentation can affect the appearance of the skin. In some cases, hands age even faster than the face.
General tips to keep your hands looking young longer
You will never be able to stop skin aging – it is part of life. However, you can reduce it and thus delay it a bit. This can even work on your hands. We’ve put together a few general tips and tricks you can use to keep your hands looking a little younger:
Don’t forget to protect your hands from the sun
Sunbathing or UV rays do not only affect the skin on your face. The hands can also suffer and even age faster as a result. Above all, dark pigment spots can form more quickly. For this reason, we recommend that you also apply sunscreen to your hands every time you go out in the sun and use a hand cream with a sun protection factor in everyday life.
Use the right soap!
Hands have very few sebaceous glands. As a result, they dry out more quickly and can form wrinkles early on. Frequent hand washing with drying substances can increase this effect. By using washing lotions with moisturizing substances or bar soap, you protect your skin from drying out.
Wear gloves when cleaning and rinsing!
Detergents and dishwashing liquids contain fat solvents that can attack your skin. Household gloves are a good way to protect your skin.
Exfoliate your hands regularly
For more radiance and care, exfoliate your hands regularly. Exfoliation cleanses the skin intensively and frees it from dead skin cells. Afterwards, it is best to apply a moisturizer.
Massage your hands!
A nice hand massage promotes blood circulation and relieves tension. If you additionally combine the massage with the application of oil, your skin will be especially happy about the rich nutrients. This also works great after exfoliation!
Make sure you have a special care routine for the night!
It is recommended to care for your hands with a hand serum before going to bed and apply your hand cream on top of it. Once a week, you can also apply a restorative hand mask and put on cotton gloves over it to help it absorb.
Hand rejuvenation methods: options at dr. Pavicic in munich
In our private practice for dermatology and aesthetics in Munich, we offer various methods for hand rejuvenation. We can also combine the different options. We decide which treatment makes the most sense for you based on your individual initial findings.
Radiesse: new volume and smoother skin
When the volume on your skin decreases over the years, veins and tendons on the skin often protrude visibly. By creating new volume with the innovative dermal filler Radiesse®, we can conceal the visible structures and restore youthful contours. The active ingredient, calcium hydroxylapatite, is opaque, meaning that it cannot transmit light, and can therefore optimally cover the veins and tendons that show through. Radiesse® can not only give new volume and conceal structures. The active ingredient also serves to stimulate collagen, thus encouraging the skin to produce new collagen and elastic fibers. This means that the quality of the overlying skin can be sustainably improved with the injections. Incidentally, Radiesse® was the first filler to receive FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) approval for so-called hand augmentation – i.e. volume building on the back of the hand. The effectiveness and safety of this method for hand rejuvenation has been proven in several scientific studies.

Ipl laser treatment: remove pigment spots on the hands
The UV rays of the sun promote the formation of pigment spots – also on the hands. They appear as dark spots on the skin, can limit the aesthetics and make the hand look old. With IPL laser treatment we perform so-called photorejuvenation. In this procedure, we apply intense and filtered light to your skin on the hands. The pigment spots absorb this light, and the pigments are “blasted”. The treatment causes the pigments to be ejected outward. Small superficial vessels are briefly heated as part of the IPL laser treatment. This causes them to collapse and your body breaks down the remnants on its own. The skin surface is not affected in the process.

Skin revitalization: effective method for hand rejuvenation and prevention
Another option for anti-aging for the hand is the application of highly diluted hyaluronic acid to the back of the hand over a wide area. In this way, we can counteract the loss of moisture in your skin. The result: the appearance of thin and sagging skin is delayed. At the same time, we can also achieve a slight volume effect due to the moisture-binding effect. For this reason, this treatment option is also ideal for preventing signs of hand aging.
